One of the little things you might not notice about Duke basketball, but which is a telling detail, is that you’ll rarely hear anyone call more than one syllable. So it’s Shav, Shel, Chris, and so on. It’s a smart principle, and a sign of the level of organization the program thrives on: yelling Shelden is less effective and takes longer than yelling Shel. We’re not saying Shel is what they call for Shelden, but you get the point. That’s an important thing at Duke.

When was the last time you heard a visiting player cite the home crowd as the reason they lost?

Let’s all face it - the kids at Cameron are no more beneficial to their team than the home crowd of any other basketball school. They are simply over-hyped more than any other crowd.

I know we, as fans, all want to believe we matter at the games. Honestly though, a visiting team is just as pumped up by a raucous crowd as the home team (even if only to shut them up).

You saw the game - did the Terps draw more motivation from the Cameron crowd, or did Duke? Ask Greivis Vasquez.

You saw the games - Duke has 8 losses so far - how many were at home? Try 5.

Duke didn’t lose because the Crazies weren’t loud enough or even because their chants weren’t creative enough. They lost because they played a better team (twice).

Are you calling the Marquette loss an “away” loss? You’re wrong - the Marquette loss was in Kansas City. Marquette is in Milwaukee. An away game for both teams. Come on dude, at least know the facts!

So we’re left with 4 losses at home, 3 loses on the road, and 1 loss on neutral. Juan’s point is still valid - Duke is no better at home than on the road! Where’s you’re home field advantage now??? The crazies hinder the home team as much as, or more than, they help. The visiting team isn’t intimidated the crazies, they’re more motivated to ram it down their throats.

man, our players don’t play up to the crowd at all. they just ignore us like they are at an away game. mcroberts especially. he was having a meltdown at the unc game. he just needs to keep his head up and have some fun. the whole team really. they are putting too much pressure on themselves. maryland didn’t cause us to miss those freethrows.
